Mistake #1: Packing Like You Are Moving Abroad
We once had someone show up for a canyoning trip with a rolling suitcase. True story. Overpacking slows you down, clutters your mind, and most of the stuff stays in the vehicle anyway. For a single-day adventure, everything you need fits in a 20-liter daypack.
Lay out everything you think you need, then remove half of it. You need less than you think.
- Do bring: water shoes, sunscreen, dry change of clothes, snacks
- Do not bring: jeans, cotton towels, valuables, your entire camera kit
Mistake #2: Skipping Fitness Preparation
You do not need to be an athlete, but showing up completely unprepared makes the experience harder than it needs to be. A few weeks of regular walking, some swimming, and basic core exercises make a massive difference. Canyoning through Nevidio is significantly more enjoyable when your legs are not shaking after the first 20 minutes.
Start with 30-minute brisk walks three times a week, four weeks before your trip. Add stair climbing and swimming if you can.
Mistake #3: Booking the Wrong Difficulty Level
There is no shame in starting easy. We see people book extreme activities because they want the best story, then spend the entire time terrified instead of having fun. Adventure should push your limits, not shatter them. Talk to us honestly about your experience level and we will find the perfect match, one that challenges you without overwhelming you.
- Never done outdoor activities? Start with hiking or zip-line.
- Some experience? Rafting and Via Ferrata are perfect next steps.
- Seasoned adventurer? Nevidio canyoning and the upper Tara await.
Mistake #4: Ignoring the Weather Forecast
Mountain weather in Montenegro changes fast and without warning. A sunny morning can become a thunderstorm by noon, especially in Durmitor. We monitor conditions constantly and will reschedule if safety demands it, but you can help yourself by packing layers and a rain jacket regardless of the forecast. It is never just sunny in the mountains.
Check the weather in Žabljak, not the coast. Mountain and coastal weather in Montenegro are completely different ecosystems.
Mistake #5: Not Disconnecting
We get it, the instinct to document everything is strong. But some of the best moments in adventure happen when you put the phone in the waterproof bag and forget about it. The sound of the river, the cold shock of canyon water, the view from a summit, your memory records these better than any camera. We take photos for you anyway. Be present. The likes can wait.
