The Cliff That Rises Out of the Flatland

Vojvodina is famously flat, which is exactly what makes Titelski Breg so strange and so good for flying. It is a loess plateau — wind-blown dust packed into cliffs over tens of thousands of years — rising abruptly to about 130 metres above the Tisa river near the town of Titel, an hour from Novi Sad. From the launch you look out over the confluence of the Tisa and the Danube, the Carska Bara wetlands, and Fruška Gora floating on the horizon. It is the best-known paragliding spot in northern Serbia for a reason.

What the Flight Feels Like

A tandem flight means you are clipped to a certified pilot who does all the work. After a quick harness check and briefing, you take a few committed steps toward the edge, the wing lifts above you, and then the ground simply drops away. There is no stomach-lurch like a rollercoaster — it is smoother than that, more like the plain quietly tilting beneath you. Most flights last 15 to 25 minutes, longer when the thermals are working and the pilot can climb.

Keep walking when the pilot says go. The launch only works if you commit to those last few steps instead of hesitating at the edge.

Seasons, Thermals and Conditions

The site flies from spring through autumn. Mornings and late afternoons tend to be smoothest, while midday in summer brings stronger thermals that experienced passengers love and nervous first-timers might find lively. Flying always depends on wind direction and strength, so trust your pilot if they postpone. A good flight in safe conditions beats a rough one you did not enjoy.

Who Can Do It

Tandem paragliding is one of the most accessible ways into the air. You do not need any experience or training. As long as you can jog a few steps on the launch and fit the harness, you can fly. It suits a huge range of ages, and the pilot adjusts the flight to your appetite — gentle and scenic, or a few playful turns if you want your stomach to know it is alive.

  • No experience or licence required
  • You need to manage a short run on take-off and landing
  • Tell your pilot up front if you want it calm or lively
  • Weight limits apply — check with the operator when booking

What to Wear and Bring

Dress as if you are going for a brisk hillside walk, because that is essentially the launch and landing. Closed shoes with grip, long trousers, and layers you can move in. It is always a few degrees cooler in the air than on the ground.

  • Closed sports shoes or light hiking shoes
  • Long trousers and a windproof layer
  • Sunglasses with a retaining strap
  • A secured action camera if you have one (ask the pilot first)
